This essay claims that Stiegler’s sense of metaphor gives his work an overlooked rigour. Part one argues La Faute d’Epiméthée’s key claim (that technics is philosophy’s “unthought”) opens excess potential threatens to overwhelm work. two looks at metaphors (the pharmakon and organ). three a focus on technique mitigates suspicions trivial or jargonistic, allows it emerge as counterbalance positivistic tendency in contemporary philosophy technology. the legacy “empirical turn” technology late 1990s; problematic, I argue, because turn philosophical engagements with technologies into endorsements Zeitgeist-seizing artifacts (smartphones social media, for example), detriment what him address broader “pharmacological” “organological” implications society.
